Seasonal catchy hooks

Hiding Easter eggs on your website during Easter, a "thank you" email to loyal customers during Thanksgiving or an employer branding email so that during the holiday season, maybe that one job will be reconsidered... Any moment can be exploited for a fun and effective hook. But how do you make sure it becomes a hit, and not a miss?

There are four basic rules the hook must meet, according to Thijs Waardenburg (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences):   

  1. Match the moment with the brand and and the hook. With this we mean that the hook you choose should match your brand and the moment should be appropriate. Heineken did that nicely with this hook:
  1. Timing matters. If you post your joke on April 1, be prepared for multiple brands vying for attention. Think about it carefully.

  1. Don't go too far, because going over the edge can also trigger negative reactions. And that's exactly what you don't want.

  1. Make use of the surprise effect, just as with humor it's all about that different and surprising angle.

Making digital wish lists at De Jong & Laan

Every year, De Jong & Laan organizes a grand Saint Nicholas party for its employees and their children. A special and big party that is looked forward to every year. For de Jong & Laan we developed a special "Saint Nicholas website" where every year the employees can submit a number of presents on the wish list for their children. Each year the wish lists are exported by the Saint Nicholas team to buy the presents from local entrepreneurs.  

Nexperia Egg Challenge 

Easter egg search on your website. For chip giant Nexperia, we developed a campaign in which visitors searched for Easter eggs on the website. Did they find the Golden Egg? Then the visitors won a nice prize.

Thanks-Giving  

Often the focus is put on Black-Friday to get maximum sales from your webshop. But why not surprise your existing and loyal customers during Thanks Giving?  With a nice hook you can thank existing customers for their loyalty over the past year, perhaps with a nice discount coupon for their next order.
