6 tips for your holiday online marketing campaign

We are already counting the weeks until the holiday season starts! It provides the perfect opportunity to put your organization a little extra in the spotlights. However, how do you make sure your business stands out between all those other companies? Here are 6 tips, a gift from us to you, to make your online holiday campaign a great success.

1. Make it personal

We are all humans; we like to get some personal attention now and then. That is one of the reasons why the traditional postcard keeps its charm. However, these are significantly more expensive compared to digital means. With digital channels, you can create fun and original content that is personal too. As an example, watch this video from Vidyard:

2. Make it interactive

One of the advantages of a digital holiday greeting: there are loads of possibilities! Augmented reality, video’s, apps, games and landing pages. Interactive campaigns make sure users feel more connected and involved, which will help stimulate the recipients to take action. With the holiday season, you can do just a bit more and deviate from beaten paths.

3. Sharing is caring

As cliché as this statement is, it is also as effective. Earlier on we mentioned how we love personal messages. How great would it be then, if your customers and relations have the ability to share the message with the people close to them?

Furthermore it is important to include your colleagues/employees when setting up a campaign. Research shows that content is relatively shared the most often by employees of a company. When you design your campaign in such a way that employees can share it on their social channels, logically they will be seen more often. With the right implementations, a snowball effect can be created if your employee’s network starts sharing the content as well. This way you create a larger reach for your campaigns.

4. Be on time

Do you want to encourage your visitors or customers to make a purchase of perform another type of action? Start on time with your campaign! With summer barely gone, some campaign already start to rise in the month October. Customers and relations can be overwhelmed by all kinds of sparkling possibilities. Make sure you determine an effective time slot to show your campaigns, so you can really amaze your customers and relations, and they will have enough time to perform an action or purchase. Keep in mind that the average business buyer needs a bit more convincing at times. You could for instance start with a teaser video on social media to start warming people up to the holiday spirit.

5. Be complete

When running a campaign, you want to track the results. When you set up an email campaign and share it via social media, make sure all your UTM parameters are set up properly. This way you will know which visitors came from what where and which channels performed well. And like this there are other ‘small’ things to take into account. Many of these will sound obvious, however they are often forgotten.

6. Mobile users

Keep in mind that a reasonable share of your visitors will experience your campaign through a mobile device, especially when it concerns an email campaign. ‘Our customers don’t visit our site on their mobile phones’, is something we often hear. Is this completely true though? People spend a lot of their time on their phones, and work mail is often checked on a phone, for instance when someone is on the road or in a meeting. This is especially the case during the busy holiday season. So make sure your campaign is mobile friendly.

So, do you want to do something special during the upcoming holidays for your customers? Add a personal touch, make it interactive and be sure to think about everything. Most of all, start planning on time and don’t forget about your mobile visitors.
