5 easy-to-use tips to start with professional blogging

As a company, you have the most to gain from your ambassadors (read: employees) when it comes to telling your business story and expertise. Professional blogs are a great tool to get this to your intended prospects. And, when distributed correctly in your network, they often provide the very good leads.

However, the actual writing of a blog often evokes resistance. And that's not surprising, because when you're not busy with content creation on a daily basis, it's quite unfamiliar at first. I often see that the motivation is present! For this reason, I have listed challenges I often hear, and reveal some myths and provide tips to make blogging a little easier.

1. Everyone is a writer

This is what I often hear: I'm not a writer so I'm not a blogger, and bad at content creation. Well, I have good news for you: you are a writer! Everyone is able to express their story in one way or another, whether verbal, written or visual. It's the art of making it concrete and just start writing your story. It's absolutely not necessary to have everything perfect the first time. And you can always check and optimize your story with a marketing/communication professional.

2. Think of a blog as a conversation, structure will follow

When you start writing a blog, think about how you would tell your story (verbally) to a colleague. For example, ask yourself the following questions: how would you like to receive information about your subject of choice? How would you explain it to yourself? And what are interesting facts, and what certainly not?

3. Myth: A blog must be a long read to be successful

One of the biggest assumptions in the world of blogging: a blog must be a long read to be successful. This is absolutely not true. Remember that visitors to a page often look at a page for a few seconds and 'scan' the content. Just be aware, you do as well. If you are interested, read on. Make sure your blog is logically structured, uses clear sub-headings, and does not use excessively complicated language.

4. Uncertainty about negative reactions: don't!

It's always scary to do something you've never done before. But as Pipi Langkous once said: 'I've never done it before, so I'm probably very good at it'. And that's the same with blogging. And yes, there will always be people who give (negative) feedback. Consider this as a valuable contribution to your blog: what can you do (better) next time in a different way, and learn from this what really fascinates your target group.

5. I don't have any experience, so I can't

As I said before, everyone is a writer. At TRIMM I always ask people to provide as much information as possible. A blog does not have to be good immediately, often I look at it from my own expertise and discover the essence/structure of the story. Together with my colleague who tells the story, I use my expertise how we can turn it in an interesting and informative blog. So, think in challenges instead of problems and just do it!
