TRIMM 25th anniversary!

TRIMM 25th anniversary!

Although we prefer to look ahead rather than back in time, we can’t let this one pass: today – February 7, 2018 - TRIMM is proudly celebrating it's 25th year anniversary! In recent years we have been energetically working on innovative and challenging digital projects and fortunately, we are still working on those every day. We would like to take you back in time, will you join us?

On February 7, 1993, ‘I will always love you’ by Whitney Houston ranks number one in the charts, Chris Zegers celebrates his tenth birthday and the match between FC Twente and FC Groningen ends in a draw. Whether these events helped Willem Jaap Zwart to make the decision to start TriMM (Training Interactive MultiMedia) is unlikely. But he sees the opportunities and endless possibilities for interactive media in education. A visionary move, because it was not until 1994 that the internet really made its mainstream breakthrough in the Netherlands. From that moment on everything develops rapidly.

With the arrival of Windows 95, the general public uses a modem to access the internet. One of them is one of our current managing directors Marc Woesthuis. From his student apartment he builds a website for FC Twente. One year later, this will be the first official site of a professional soccer club in The Netherlands.

In 1995 TriMM starts working for KPN: we built the first commercial internet application in The Netherlands, an instruction CD-ROM from Het Net and the electronic order form ISDN. In April 1996 we have another first;the very first URL can be seen on a billboard along the soccer field: www.TriMM.nl! TriMM is getting more known in the industry and in 1996, Philips knocks on our door with a request to support their digital platforms. 22 years later, we still enjoy Philips as one of our valued clients.

The internet is in full swing in 1998. ‘Startpagina.nl’ is founded by Dirk Jan de Bruin on September 15 and in 1999 the Dutch version of Google is registered. MSN gains popularity pushing ICQ to the background in 2002, making it one of the most popular chat programs in The Netherlands. We also see that Internet Explorer is the most widely used browser (95%!). (Nowadays, the browser Chrome is number one with 45%).

In the area of internet, the 00s are characterized by the rise of social media. Skype is released in 2003, Hyves and Facebook in 2004, the firts video on YouTube can be admired in 2005, in 2006 Twitter makes its appearance. Classics appear in 2007 and from 2009 on we make massive use of WhatsApp. TriMM is also very active during the zeros. In 2006 ‘PiT’ (Professionals in Training) is launched: a breeding ground for digital talent, where students get the chance to gain relevant work experience. In 2008 our half-sister GriDD is ‘born’, and we decide to join a bicycle tour in 2009 in Vietnam to raise money for the Child Surgery Foundation. This is also the year that the construction of our current office begins.

In 2013, smartphones are in everyone’s pocket, Snapchat and Instagram are immensely popular in The Netherlands and Edward Snowden blow the whistle. In 2015, we roll out our new corporate identity: TRIMM. The year 2017 is an extra special year: we can finally make calls and use the internet on our mobile phones at no additional cost in other EU member states. TRIMM is voted best full service internet agency in The Netherlands by Emerce, we put everything in the cloud and are honored with an an international prize: the Digital Communication Award.

And now?

The digital landscape dynamic and always changing. The recent DDoS attacks on banks and governments show the importance to have focus on online security. In addition to security, we also see that anonymity and the protection of personal data are paramount. For example, the new GDPR legislation will come into effect in May. Digital personalization, offering relevant (video) content, machine learning and distributed ledgers are other hot topics when we take a look at the future. We are ready to continue for many years with innovative projects for (international) customers, together with our various partners.
